The award of the Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm by the Republic of Vietnam to HEADQUARTERS, UNITED STATES ARMY, VIETNAM and its subordinate units for service in Vietnam from 20 July 1965 to 28 March 1973
CITATION: The UNITED STATES ARMY, VIETNAM and subordinate units performed both significantly and heroically while serving in the Republic of Vietnam from 20 July 1965 to 28 March 1973. This dedicated and magnificent force was able to endure great sacrifices and overcome every difficulty while assisting the Vietnamese people in their struggle against a determined Communist aggressor. Its valor on the field of combat contributed significantly toward establishing an american military heritage which will no doubt prove difficult to either equal or surpass. By an outstanding performance of duty in all its endeavors, this efficient military organization was able to successfully complete such large-scale operations as MASHER, BIRMINGHAM, CEDAR FALLS and JUNCTION CITY against a determined and often well-equipped North Vietnamese Army force. In addition to its aforementioned exploits, the UNITED STATES ARMY, VIETNAM will be long remembered for its direct support role to the Republic of Vietnam Troops who were actively engaged in the destruction of Communist military base camps and supply depots in both Cambodia and Laos. Its contribution toward the economical development of Vietnam was of sufficiently noteworthy scale as to endear the memory of this well-tried and proven force in the hearts of all peoples of South Vietnam. Through the interjection of numerous civic action programs, the UNITED STATES ARMY, VIETNAM was able to depart Southeast Asia with a feeling of true accomplishment. Its many sacrifices in that part of the world will have assured the Vietnamese government that it may reign over a free and democratic populace without fear of Communist aggression or takeover. The truly remarkable accomplishments of the UNITED STATES ARMY, VIETNAM have been in keeping with the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
