2ND BATTALION, 14TH INFANTRY REGIMENT
CITATION: For exceptionally meritorious service. During the period 19 June 2004 to 19 June 2005, the 2d Battalion, 14th Infantry displayed exceptionally meritorious service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Battalion conducted countless raids, cordon and searches, counter-mortar operations, defensive operations, civil-military and information operations, and mounted patrols throughout some of the most hostile regions in all of Iraq. The unit uncovered dozens of caches, detained over two-hundred anti-Iraqi fighters, and sustained over one hundred and forty casualties throughout its deployment. Additionally, the unit helped set the conditions for some of the most significant and sweeping political changes in Iraq’s history including free national elections and the seating of the popularly elected Iraqi Transitional Government. The unit also directly contributed to the formation of a democratic Iraq and helped to establish a legacy of freedom. The 2d Battalion, 14th Infantry’s outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects distinct credit upon the unit, and the United States Army.
