This superb shock unit was always in the thick of the fight. It notably distinguished itself on 6 June 1944, at the time of the Normandy landings. Thrown into a heavily mined beach under terrific fire, with the mission of neutralizing several enemy elements, they attained the objectives to which they had been assigned and were successful in holding the positions, thus making possible the landing of other important forces.
