Missing in Action while conducting combat operations against Imperial Japanese Forces near Savo Island in the Solomon Islands chain during the Guadalcanal Campaign. S1c Easley had first served aboard the USS TENNESSEE (BB-43) and then the USS OKLAHOMA (BB-37). After the attack on Pearl Harbor and the sinking of the Oklahoma, he was transferred to USS JARVIS (DD-393) on 12 DEC 1941.
