Dale was a passenger on the troop transport C47 #42-101025 which crashed in the Bois de Limors, near Picauville, France, killing all on board. There were 4 crew members and 18 paratroopers from the 2nd Battalion 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment. Dale managed to bail out, but was killed by machine gun fire before hitting the ground.
